FEBRUARY CLASS NEWS
We celebrated the 100th day of school on February the 10th!! We
had a busy afternoon rotating through the five primary classes doing a
different 100th day activity in each class.
It was a fun way to celebrate and the children are congratulated on all
their hard work and learning that they have done these past 100 days.
On Tuesday, February 14th we celebrated Norbert's birthday and Valentine's Day. We had heart shaped carrots made by Ms. Pausch and some delicious treats brought in by students to share with their classmates. We had fun making special Valentine mice for our families.
At our last school assembly, the focus was on the
Character trait, Teamwork.
Congratulations to Cameron and Zayden for receiving a certificate this
month. They are both willing to work with others and can be
depended upon to be kind and supportive of their classmates. They enjoy group
activities and are very co-operative and great at sharing books, building
materials and their ideas with classmates.
The children will be receiving their report cards this week. They have all worked hard and
should take pride in their accomplishments.
It is a good time to reflect with them on a personal learning goal they
may have and how you can continue to support them at home.
For the Grade One parents, this will be your first
report card that has a grade mark for each subject. However, when reviewing the marks for Reading
and Writing, please do not focus on the grade mark alone; reading skills are
developmental (like other developmental skills e.g., walking, talking) and a
mark is a snap shot of where each child is right now, not of his or her
potential or all the individual progress they have made. It would be very
similar to grading toddlers on their first birthday with respect to their
walking or speaking skills. Some would have failed because they were not yet independently
walking or clearly talking on that particular date. Children's reading and
writing skills are also developmental and their grades may not yet reflect what
their potential in Language will be in future grades. Time, patience and your
continued support and encouragement of their daily efforts to read will help
them develop their literacy skills (just as similar efforts helped the children
learn to walk and talk).
I will have an opportunity to discuss your child's
progress and any questions you may have during parent-teacher interviews. Please
take a moment to fill in the interview schedule form being sent home and
return it by Monday, Feb. 13th.
February 16th and 17th are the dates for Parent-Teacher
Conferences.
Please contact me if you did not send in a request sheet and we can book an appointment for another day after school.
Thank you for your continued support.
