On Wednesday, May 22nd, the children in Room 204 participated in a special workshop with a visiting artist, Karen Harkins. Throughout the day, Karen modelled for the children the creative process artists use to learn and develop their skills.  She introduced the students to four sunflower paintings created by Vincent van Gogh. The students were then inspired and challenged to produce their own interpretations of his paintings. They observed real sunflowers and learned how to explore, experiment, and use feedback to create acrylic paintings. The children listened carefully to the artist during her mini-lessons and worked hard all day.
Here is a sample of their paintings:

In Science, we have been learning about living things as well as animal and plant life cycles; we have  planted sunflower seeds and are caring for them as they grow. The children hope that they will be able to one day paint their own sunflowers once they have grown at the end of the summer.
All of our paintings are in the office display case and we hope you have an opportunity to stop by and enjoy viewing each child's creation. It was a wonderful learning experience and the children are very proud of their works of art!
